The history of International Coffee Day
Coffee is not just a drink, it is an element that brings people together and unites communities. For this and many other reasons, International Coffee Day is celebrated and here at Charlas Café® we want to tell you the story behind this day.
The history of International Coffee Day
We all love coffee and it seems like that would be enough of a reason to celebrate International Coffee Day, but there are other reasons behind this love story.
Coffee, in addition to referring to a world full of passion, tradition and culture, brings together many countries that year after year use their land to grow the best beans.
In honor of them and of all the people who are part of the universe, the International Coffee Organization (ICO) decided to create a unique day to commemorate this ancient bean and drink.
When is Coffee Day celebrated?
International Coffee Day began its history in 2015, exactly on October 1st of that year. Since then, the 77 members of the International Coffee Organization celebrate their day every October 1st.
They are joined by dozens of coffee associations around the world with the same goal: to enjoy the passion, love, affection, tradition and culture surrounding coffee.
Likewise, the ICO has created different campaigns on this day with the aim of supporting different coffee causes. In 2018, the theme was about “Women in Coffee” and in 2020, about the ravages caused by the pandemic.
What is the purpose of celebrating International Coffee Day?
International Coffee Day, in addition to commemorating the world of coffee beans, lovers of a good cup, connoisseurs and experts, also aims to support the millions of coffee growers whose livelihood depends on the crop.
This day, in addition to being a celebration, is a time of gratitude and support for those who put all their effort and work into the service of an ancient drink that is today consumed almost as much as water.
Let's celebrate International Coffee Day together!
The countries with the highest coffee production in Latin America are Mexico, Brazil, Honduras, Peru, and Colombia. These territories are joined by Vietnam, Indonesia, Ethiopia, India, and Uganda on the other side of the globe.
There are many of us coffee lovers!
Celebrating around this grain unites our cultures and strengthens our traditions.
Let's celebrate coffee day with a good cup of Charlas Café® and give a beautiful smile to the coffee growers of the world who make this drink possible.
